Hi gang... I wanted to share a post with you that a friend of mine
posted on Facebook recently. It's a beaut.

I'm still trying to confirm the source; it was attributed to Warren Buffett.
But it doesn't matter who said it - the ideas expressed are ideas that
really could fix America if only American voters picked up on them,
got behind them and DEMANDED our elected officials implement them -
on pain of being voted out of office come the next election.

The people still have the power ... if only they'd wake up and move as one.

Here's my friend's post:

Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling.
"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes. You just pass a law that says that
anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of
Congress are ineligible for re-election.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took
only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded
it. That was in 1971... before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27
amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become
the law of the land...all because of public pressure."

I suggest everyone reading this should email this copy to twenty people
on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.
In three days, most people in The United States of America would have the message.
These are the ideas that really should be circulated and acted on:

*Congressional Reform Act of 2011*
1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office
and receives no pay when they are out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All
funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security
system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system,
and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used
for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the
same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective
1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with
Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers
envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go
home and back to work.

Again - If each person reading this post contacts a minimum of twenty people
and shares this info with them ... and they do likewise ... and so on...
it would take mere days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message.

If these ideas were taken up by a majority of American voters,
congress would face the decision of either having to implement them,
or worry about clearing out their desk come the next election.

Good!  Clap

I hope EVERYBODY reading this passes this on.

This gets right to the problem of our political system.
Our politicians - not unsurprisingly - have allowed greed and selfishness to
be the drivers of their legislative behavior, instead of (as Abe Lincoln said),
"being touched by the greater angels of their nature."

Out of, and away from the scrutiny of American voters, our elected officials
have over the years created for themselves (and themselves only) a
wide array of benefits, extraordinary vehicles for financial gain, security,
and retirement assets that are not available to ordinary American citizens.
The list of these extraordinary benefits would shock and anger every
citizen who does not realize the actual scope of these benefits.

The most outrageous fact of all is that NONE of these rewards are tied to
actual job performance - as is the case out here in the real world for the rest of us.

This is incredibly galling when you stop to realize that your Senators and
Representatives are accomplishing embarrasingly little - shockingly little, in
return for all the comforts their position affords them.

I say this has gone on long enough. It's time to end the Roman Orgy our
politicians are enjoying at our considerable expense.

Their behavior will not stop until WE THE VOTERS END IT.

Our country's fortunes will not improve until we get elected officials in office
who recognize that they are not entering a job that will provide them with
benefits grossly out of line with other, average professional Americans...
and that they won't have the power to create such unfair, and undeserved
advantages for themselves.

We need elected officials who instead recognize that they're there to do
an incredibly important job, to do it well and expediently, and that they
won't be extraordinarily compensated beyond all sense of propriety.

Ahem...I believe teachers, and federal and state classified employees enjoy the same.  We all know how resistant their unions are to any changes in their status.

You are correct dream. I don't disagree.

Here's the bottom line about unions - and I speak as a former union
Ornamental Ironworker, for the record.

Yes ... Federal and state workers also enjoy protections and benefits most in the private sector do not.

But nowhere NEAR on the order that politicians elected to national office
enjoy. Not even close. What ever made these elected officials believe they
actually deserved these things? In my opinion, they most definitely do not.

Unions were a good thing back in the early 20th century when
workers were subjected to bad conditions and weren't given living wages.
Nowadays, if you're a bad employer in America you're going to be outed
in this age of instant communication. You can't hide if you're doing illegal,
immoral things in the marketplace. If you're a worker you don't need a
union to be your muscle anymore.

I'm not the only one who believes that union mandates and policies in the
late 20th century have actually done more to hasten the demise of the
American blue collar worker than to help them. It was all good before
American manufacturers faced global competition, but once other
developing nations developed capability the sand quickly began to run out
of the hourglass. Talk to any American autoworker about this - present or retired;
They've seen how their union-inflated wages and benefits have priced
them out of the global marketplace. To be sure, American auto manufacturers
did themselves no favors by putting out shitty product in the 70s and 80s
and allowing Japanese car makers to seize market share - but now that
the economy has tanked and American car makers still haven't regained
that lost market share, they can't afford the legacy union pensions and wages anymore.
Today, Japanese manufacturers aren't paying their workers on the same
scale that United Autoworkers got in their heyday, and they never will.

Unionized teachers are also seeing that their unions are less and less
effective at protecting them and their benefits. As schools and
municipalities are out of money and tax bases erode, unions have no
bargaining power.

In any event - ANY protections that keep wages artificially high, and
bad or underperforming employees in place when they would otherwise
be subject to reprimands, corrective actions or firing is bad for everybody.
For example: I can't tell you how many worthless Teamsters I've met
in my day... guys who are the most slothenly bums imaginable...
guys who don't give a damn, don't work hard, and would be out a job
instantly if not for union protection.

People in America have gotten a little too used to the idea that their
country owes them a living. It sure as hell doesn't.

Jeff,  I agree 100% with your response to my post.  I've long felt the same about unions and the fact they do more harm than good these days.  The teacher's unions are doing everything they can to block attempts to get rid of tenure, bad teachers and rewarding the good ones.  That kind of attitude is not helping the children in the system which has become similar to those of third world countires.  Our kids are falling behind, and those entering college today need remedial courses.  I know one governor who is taking on his state's teachers union and I say BRAVO to him - Gov. Chris Christie!Thumbs%20Up

This is a difficult time in America for many citizens who staked their careers
on union-based jobs and the benefits their unions were providing them.

The implicit promise was: "You are working for this; your time and contributions
count; and your pensions and benefits will be there for you in the end."

Sadly, many thousands of union workers are discovering that this wasn't an
ironclad, bulletproof promise. What I learned a long time ago - that same thing
these union workers are finding out now - is that money talks, and EVERYTHING
else walks. And that's a shame for everyone who's suffering now because
of the changing paradigm in the global workplace. We have to compete
with those who make far less than we do, in order to keep the business.

Americans have to get with the reality that we are NOW competing in a
global marketplace. Where American unions don't call the shots,
set the wage scale or make glorious promises.

And politicians had better be saving their money... because before long,
THEIR gravy train is going to reach the end of the line.
Voters have to demand that our Senators and Representatives strip the laws
they wrote to give them all the perqs and benefits they alone enjoy.

Washington wasn't supposed to be a goddamned country club, but that's what
they've turned it into. The HELL with that.

These elected officials are there to CARE FOR THIS COUNTRY -
not to cash in on some candy store they've built for their own private use.

I'm seeing the language contained in my first post in this thread
circulating quite a bit. I've noticed several people on FB sending it around.

Last night - believe it or not - my cousin in New York State emailed me,
as one of HIS 20 people on HIS list! This was unrelated to what I posted here;
two completely separate events!  (His godson had emailed him this same
information and my cousin was doing his part in spreading the word.)

This idea is growing in popularity.
THAT'S where real change begins... with the people.

Great stuff that You've posted above!

––••––

Ok... this next one is a little out there,
almost unrelated but none the less,
interesting in a wierd, yet connected sort of way.

I'll explain.

Here it is December 1, 2011 in America.
Less than 24 days away from Christmas that most of us can little afford.
Less than six months away from what could be a very interesting Spring.
Less than a year away from big political elections.
And to top it all off, a year and a few days away from when the world as we know it,
is supposed to end.

Are we having fun yet?

Well anyway, here I was reading an unrelated to all of the above
news article about the unusally "wierd winds" hitting California today,
actually causing power outages and airport closures.
(What in the world?)

Anyway... at the same time
I was thinking about a bunch of other stuff
also at the same time... ya know...
multitasking, as usual.

I took a break from reading the CBSNews weather article,
and went outside to look at the sky
and see if it looked windy here,
with some random threads of thoughts
kinda blowing through my mind...

Stuff like:

How do we really fix America...
What are the real signs of the winds of any real change in America...
How could we get a snap shot of what is really important right now in America...
How could we take the temperature of America to see how sick it really is at this moment...
What summary 'image' would show that?

If the world was mostly destroyed next year,
and only one jpg survived from this day,
today only, to be discovered in the future ancient ruins of today,
by some advanced civilization 100,000 years in the future...

What picture scrap of evidence would
give a snap-shot, base-line temperature reading
of what was going on...
waaaay back in the... "today" of
December 1, 2011 AD?

Something where, every surviving word...
every word, every image...
in this one and only surviving 'pic'
would be analyzed to death
for deepest meaning of...
what those ancient humans in America
felt was really really important waaay back in 2011
...

Well...
when I came back in here,
and looked at my computer screen,
left randomly right where I'd left off reading it last...
was this
(Here's a "screen grab")

__
Random Screen Grab from "weather" article at cbsnews.com 12/01/2011
- cbsnews.com/8301-501363_162-57334410 -

Wow...
from an ancient history of the future perspective,

What would this 'only surviving jpg' actually say
about what was important
waaay back in 2011 AD?

"A Look Back At Tomorrow from Above"

Y
up, back in those ancient times
100,000 years ago
from a carbon dated jpg from back to December 1, 2011 AD,
found in a SoulfulPlanet Server Rock Carving Cave,
we've now learned that...
those ancient Americans did the following stuff.

•They worshipped a god called Santa with weapons called AK-47's and pepper spray.
•Their Angels were always depicted nearly naked,
and they were more bangin' looking than even much earlier Angels found in cave ruins once know as Rome Greece.
•They wore their flag symbols over their faces because the air was not breathable.
•They all had alzheimers and fought all the time over 'property lines',
not being able to easily remember stuff.
•Home Security was sacred law.
•American Family Units lived in Cars.
•The hot air of "politics" from their leaders was cooled by the Santa shopping gods,
also known as the Santa Ana Winds, as those fierce angy winds blew and squeezed through the cleavage of their Angels mountains.
•They were mostly carbon based lifeforms. Some of their Angels were carbon/silicon based lifeforms.
•They all had gas, and somehow charged each other for it when they farted.
•They never traveled, because the act was considered evil and scam riddled with danger.
•They thought that when they died, they would dance with the stars overhead.
•Sex of this species would only happen by teens of this civilization, when they would somehow jam their 'face in a book', but that act was somehow also scam and danger riddled, too.
•Shopping was some sort of religious ritual scam that only happend on friday in the middle of the night in America. They would often shoot AK-47 weapons and pepper spray at fellow participants, in honor of human sacrifice rituals to their Santa gods, when those gods weren't blowing wind at the Angels' cleavage mountains.
•Their music of the day was some form of audio waveform that involved a tribal instrument known as a beat box, a cello and a vocal singer. The nearly naked "Angels" would come down from the stars with wings and bless them by walking up and down their 'landing strip' in some secret ritual. Those in attendance would clap and often drool.
•They also tried to Unite the Continental plates by trying to climb to heights measured in dollar cubits. The "Angels" would often interbreed with only those achieving the biggest dollar cubits heights.
•Time in years was somehow measured by 'Advertising stone carving links', hence their formal calendar year count was followed by "AD".
• And so it was... on the lost continent of America back in 2011 AD.

Regardless of which wrong conclusion future archaeologists arrive at -
I'm guessing they'll also conclude that we never really did get serious about fixing America.
