~ Carolyn Crawford ~
I have had the pleasure of meeting Carolyn, and working with her.
She came and sang at a couple of gigs with the Flash Geezer band
that I played bass in. She is a great singer, and you can hear her most recent work on the "Soulful Tale Of Two Cities" double C.D.
She sings the Philly hit "Didn't I blow your mind this time"
It is one of my favorite cuts on the C.D.
Carolyn is a great gal and I hope you all get a chance to meet her
or hear her sing. She is a very special Lady! Smile

Nice photos, Geno.  What a treat to see Miss Crawford & the ever dapper don Bundino Sigalucci.

Toad, I love her cut on STOTC too.  "Didn't I...." is one of my favorite Philly songs of all time.  She did a great job with it.

I knew Mitch Ryder from back in the day. His Rym. guitar player from the
Wheels band played in a group with me. [Joe Kubert]. The Wheels Lead player Jim McCarty plays in town quite often. The last time I saw Mitch
was about a year and a half ago. I went to see Spyder Turner, and Mitch was on the bill. Turns out, Spyder had to be rushed to the hospital because of some nasty stomach virus, and Mitch came on trying to get over a hip replacement surgery situation. He wasn't shakin' a tail feather
that night for sure. Sure is hell gittin' old..ya dig?

Medusa,
When Ray Monette and I were kids, our band was backing up
singers at a venue called "The Village" on Woodward Ave. & Alexanderine
in Detroit. I think I was 17 years old at the time. We backed up lots of
Great singers down there. Lee Rogers, Mitch Ryder[He called himself Billy
Lee at the time], and Tommy Storm from the Fabulous Peps. The master
of ceromonies was a guy called Cicel B. Rabbitt. We had a lot of fun
playing at that place, and we got our first exposure to playing and hearing black soul music that would effect us for the rest of our lives.
We also backed up some great guys called "The Distants" who later
became the TEMPTATIONS. An experience that I woudn't trade for anything.

Barrett Strong

The Elgins

J.J. Barnes

The Marvelettes(as far as I am concerned they dont get enough credit)

The Funk Brothers(if it wasnt for these guys, there would be no Motown)

Eddie Holland

Wow I see Kitten took the Velelettes-they are from my hometown of Kalamazoo, and they still live here I believe.

Yes, The Barbees and/or The Vells - b/k/a Velvelettes are my #1 Motown girlgroup next to The Supremes, after is The Marvelettes brcause they were so earthy in their r&b and soulful delivery. To be honest I was trying to THINK of Berrett Strong, Chuck Jackson (a fav of mine before he recorded with Motown) and J.J. Barnes. I wanted to include J.J. but Motown didn't do anything with him or Emanuel Laskey either..is why there somewhere if I typed it or not in another post of non- Motown artist.
Someone did turn me onto another highly talented yet another under-rated singer is ==> Hattie Little[s], she can blow! Somebody whoever you are out there - needs to find her material. Plus give us Americans some of the Tamla/Motown releases. Hattie is a goldmine!
ps
I like Oma Page, check her duet w/ Marvin 'So Good To Be Loved By You.'
Plus did Nolan Chance with or without The Diablos ever record with Motown.
I heard that someplace and wondered if that's true??

To the best of my knowledge Nolan never recorded with Motown because he was loyal to the Brown's at Fortune.   In fact Berry Gordy wanted Nolan on Motown so badly that when he didnt get him, he got the Temptations to record under the name the Pirates to do Nolan' song "Mind Over Matter".
