I am now hearing that members of Congress
are now somewhat concerned about the effects of
the dispersants used by BP during the oil volcano eruption. The Government had told BP to stop using the
stuff untill it could be evaluated for toxicity, but somehow, Chad Allen took it upon himself to allow
BP to keep using it, and it's use was never curbed.
In my feeble mind, it appears that Allen may
end up being the "Fall guy" for this dispersant use
decision, with him being very close to retirement
do to his age and prior service time as head of the Coast Guard. Kind of the same situation as with Gen.
McCrystal running things in Afganistan. When things
go bad, he gets forced out..[with full benifits.]
This "blame game" seems to be a pattern that
comes up everytime a critical decision needs to be made that is connected to the Government.
Why implicate any politicians when you can stick
all the blame on one military officer, pay him off
with a handsome retirement, and sweep the issue
 under the rug.
In my opinion, this is yet another example of
how chickenshit and inept our government has become
with taking reponsibility for matters of National security. This government behavior is shameful.
The EPA says the depersants are OK......

BP risks Obama row by hinting it may return to stricken oil well

— Company's statement: "it may not give up all claims on Macondo well" escalates ongoing struggle with White House —

"A struggle between BP and the Obama administration over the future of the cemented well in the Gulf of Mexico erupted in public today when the oil company suggested it may drill in the same reservoir again."

"In a briefing with reporters meant to symbolise BP's return to business-as-usual in the Gulf, the chief operating officer, Doug Suttles, said the company may not give up all claims on the Macondo well, which leaked five million barrels of oil into the Gulf."

"There's lots of oil and gas here," Suttles said. "We're going to have to think about what to do with that at some point." ... ...

— With seal in place, focus turns to relief well —
By KATARZYNA KLIMASINSKA
Bloomberg News
Aug. 8, 2010, 5:35PM

"BP PLC said the Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico is effectively plugged with cement poured last week. The company continues to drill a relief well as a last step to ensure that the source of the biggest offshore accidental oil spill in history never leaks again."

"The Macondo well, which spewed an estimated 4.9 million barrels of crude after an April 20 explosion aboard the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, was filled with mud and cement from the top in a process called static kill after BP capped the gusher with a stack of valves on July 15.
"The pressure testing following the cementing operations indicates we have an effective cement plug," the company said in a statement on its website today."

"BP has stopped skimming for oil in the open ocean because it's having trouble finding crude on the surface, ... ... " (continued here).

Of course BP wants to tap that well again.  There's a lot of gas and oil down there yet, worth millions of dollars.  BP needs all the money it can get, at this point.

But with all the manic, hysterical politicking going on these days - and Obama desperate for something good to point to - it's anyone's guess if his Administration wants to go anywhere near green-lighting offshore drilling again. The blame game is in full swing.

Despite all the bullshit spin about the seafood being safe, and how three quarters of all the spilled oil has supposedly been burned off or skimmed up - news footage has clearly shown that most of that spilled oil is still below the surface of the water ... suspended in little globules of gooey oil and coagulants ... vast stretches of contaminated water that cannot be neatly cleaned up.

I'd have to say that any seafood that's been pulled out of this cesspool is definitely NOT safe for human consumption.  I can only assume that fishing fleets and environmental entities have mapped out regions that are - as yet - uncontaminated by the spreading oil, and that fishing fleets are confinined to fish only in "safe" areas, well away from the mess.

Jeff, re: the "seafood"/ Sure hope that somebody stays on top of things with checking seafood for the rest of anybody who eats it. /

and speaking of staying on top of things, look at this:

After Another Close Call, Transocean Changed Rules
www.nytimes.com
By ROBBIE BROWN
Published: August 16, 2010

"— Four months before the Deepwater Horizon explosion in the Gulf of Mexico, another oil rig owned by the same company faced a strikingly similar emergency in the North Sea that was contained only because its safety equipment functioned properly, according to confidential internal documents."

"In response to the near disaster, Transocean, the world’s largest offshore drilling company, ordered critical changes to its own policies for handling oil well safety. But it is not clear whether those policy changes reached the Deepwater Horizon crew before that rig exploded.... "

BP: Failed blowout preventer removed from well
By HARRY R. WEBER
Associated Press Writer

Sept. 3, 2010, 2:09PM

"NEW ORLEANS — BP PLC said the blowout preventer that failed to stop oil from spewing into the Gulf of Mexico was removed from the company's well on Friday afternoon.
A BP spokesman said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that the 50-foot, 300-ton device was detached from the wellhead at 1:20 p.m CDT.
The device was slowly being lifted to the surface and wouldn't likely reach the top until sometime Saturday.
Earlier in the day, a vessel had latched onto the equipment to raise it from a mile beneath the sea.
Undersea video showed the device suspended in the water. A crane on the Helix Q4000 was being used for the task.
The blowout preventer is considered a key piece of evidence in the spill investigation.... ... ... "

Halliburton Shares Take a Hit After Report
By THE NEW YORK TIMES.
Published: October 28, 2010

"... The report found that the cement mixture that Halliburton recommended to seal the Macondo well was unstable in tests, and that the instability might have contributed to the blowout that killed 11 rig workers and left the well gushing out of control. The commission staff determined that Halliburton had conducted three laboratory tests showing that the cement mixture did not meet industry standards.

The result of at least one of those tests were given to BP on March 8, according to investigators. Another test, about a week before the blowout on April 20, also found the mixture to be unstable, and Halliburton never sent those findings to BP. ... "

Oil Washing Up on Shores Came From Gulf

— Oil Washing Up on Shores Came From Gulf- March 2011 —

"By RYAN DEZEMBER And JEFFREY BALL

MORGAN CITY, La.— "The oil that has washed onto nearby beaches in recent days is Louisiana sweet crude, which rules out refineries or tankers carrying foreign oil as culprits but leaves the spill's precise origins very much a mystery, U.S. officials said Tuesday."

"..."This is definitely crude from the Gulf of Mexico," said Capt. Jonathan Burton, who is based here and heads the U.S. Coast Guard's response to the spill."

"The crude began washing up on stretches of Louisiana's shoreline late Saturday and continued to foul beaches through Monday, including on Elmer's Island, a state wildlife refuge. The Coast Guard said that crude has accumulated on stretches amounting to about a half-mile. The locations of those landings dot about 30 miles of coastline in an area that was among the hardest hit during the spill unleashed by the explosion last year of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, which was drilling a deep-water oil and gas well for BP PLC.... ... ... It was also Happy Spinal Tap Day too yesterday Geno. lol

So much for Veteran's Day. The crazies were out. At least I was able to hear a little of a Veteran's story yesterday.

Really interesting about the pyramids. People all over the world love to gravitate towards stuff that means nothing, except that there's a general
agreement about it. Parties are important too I guess. lol
