          Geno,
    This "super committee" is un-Constitutional.
Nobody in Congress, save a handful of tea party folks
 have figured that out yet.
Congress continues to ignore the rule of Law laid
out in the Constitution, and then wonder why the
"tea Party" is holding their ass to the fire.
If they think times are tough for them, wait until
 2012.

Toad, Dream, Mixey & Jeff..

I say flip a coin... but just make sure that Your favorite side's "Super Committe"
calls 'Heads"...
unless
it's spun... then have them call "Tails"!
*LoL*
No doubt, they'd be sure to make even this decision process cost us billion$, too.

As I mentioned, ABC News is doing a whole series on "Made In America".  They've been doing it for several months, and have exposed many offenders.  Their expose on the Smithsonian caused enough embarrassment to have the store change it's ways.  I say hooray for ABC for any and all offenders they expose.  This series has nothing to do with other biased networks and their reporting.

L.L. Bean is doing what most clothing manufacturers are doing by buying from low cost labor companies overseas.  The companies that do so have nothing to be proud of IMHO.  They all should change and create jobs here.

The candidates are out there stumping and talking about creating jobs in America - ALL of them.  If they want to do so, then they need to do the right thing and have the campaign junk they sell be made in America.  It's a very simple correction to make.  They look like hypocrites otherwise.  Those who refuse to see it's very poor PR for their campaign, and it makes their campaign rhetoric look phony at best, deserve what they get, and that won't be my vote for sure.

Now that the "debt deal" has been passed,
the "blame game" has been batted back and forth,
Our representatives are now shouting about "JOBS."
Time we move on to a new "JOBS" thread, where we can discuss the pitfalls of allowing our government to
attempt to fix something they know nothing about....
Having a job that contains the demands of real
work, under fixed and long hours, with little rewards,
and nearly no benifits. Jobs like "we the people" are
subjected to everyday to make a living.
The "JOBS" thread should be a real winner, and get
plenty of participation..as we walk into the political
mine field of jobs & their creation.
I'll kick it off, and we will see what happens.
With the election coming up, it will be the focus of
every canidate, and every media outlet. All of them.

Now that the country's credit rating has been lowered by Standard & Poor, Mitt Romney is right out there blaming Obama for it.  I'm sure other Republican candidates will follow suit.

EXCUSE ME??!!!  BOTH parties and all the members of Congress are EQUALLY responsible for this mess by conducting the circus called the debt ceiling fiasco!

What a shame and a sham!!!Angry

All of the Rep. canidates will blame Obama with
the exception of Ron Paul. Paul is blaming the fact
that there were no "real" cuts made at all in the "deal."
Also, there were no privisions to balance the budget
at any time in the future. Paul understands the market.
The rest do not. Ron & Rand Paul both predicted what
the ratings agencies would do concerning the downgrade, but they were labeled "Fringe",terrorists,
 whacko's, and other dubious names.
Ron Paul's idea to freeze spending at this year's
levels...and Connie Mack's penny bill would have
balanced the budget in 6 or 8 years, but both parties
 have rejected those plans.
Dream is correct. BOTH parties share in this
disgusting mess and humiliation to our countries
ability to operate in a responsible financial manner.
People are calling for Geithner's resignation from
The Treasury Dept. There are also rumors that Jon
Corzine will replace him. Corzine is a ex-Goldman/
Sachs exec. This would be like killing Dracula and
 replacing him with the Wolfman.

We are witnessing Government.."Out-of Control."

I heard many, including the president predict this would happen because of the delays in Congress in raising the debt ceiling.  They also predicted the market crash and other problems.  The balanced budget amendment did not belong in this debate.  It's a separate issue that should be addressed by Congress at length.  Complicating the debt ceiling issue with demands and threats not to pass it unless certain things were done, is what led to this mess.  They're all responsible.  There's not an innocent member of Congress or the White House involved.

I would like everyone participating in this thread
to refer back to this thread in a year.
In the next year you will see two major things happen as a result of this "Debt limit deal."
People making less than 250 grand a year, people
making FAR less than 250 grand a year,[what is left
of the so called "middle class"] and the very poorest
people among us will be suckered into paying more
taxes. For the very poor, it will come in the devaluation
of the dollar, and for the others, they will get suckered into some sort of Fair tax,Flat Tax,"Value added" Tax,
"National sales tax", or some screwball taxation new
law. The rich will not be affected..nor will the major
 corperations.
All people involved in any "entitlements" of any
kind will get ripped off in many dubious ways by some
very creative means. Again, this will leave the rich and
the corperations to rip us off for even more than they
 already have.
The rich & the corperations control both
parties, so you know THEY won't be taking any hits.
They won't lose any benifits. They won't be paying
any higher taxes. They won't lose a thing...But you will.

The bills must be paid, and guess who will pay them.
Come back here a year from now, and let's see who
will end up paying. I got a good hunch, but I don't
want to spoil the fun we will have waiting to see the
 outcome.

Here's an interesting analysis on who pays the most in taxes along with a little history on tax rates:

All of our taxes go to the FED to pay off our
debt. The FED is a private corperation [of sorts] made
up of the Largest banks in the nation.
Between FED leader Bernake & Treasury Dept. leader Geithner..these two run the economic show.
Geithner has already said what will happen if
our credit rating was downgraded. All interest rates
 on citizens loans will increase.
I am not a expert in economics, but if the FED,
with the blessing of the Treasury dept. raises all our
credit interest rates, Isn't this in fact a "tax" ?????
All the chatter you hear about the rich not paying
their fair share of taxes really means nothing. If the
rich take all their money & invest it in the FED banks..
how can they lose if interest rates go up like Geithner
is predicting???? The rich are not dependant on credit
like the little people. They don't finance cars, college
tuition, mortages or ANY of that stuff.
Bottom line is this: The FED [the big banks] made
all the money the last time the economy tanked,
and they will make all the money when it tanks again.
They WANT the credit downgrade so they can jack
up the interest rates that all the little people pay.
All the jaw flapping about income taxes being
unfair is pure bullshit in comparison to our Treasury
Department criminally ripping us off with every credit
purchase we make. Forget income taxes. Let's talk
about the loan sharks at the FED and Treasury. They
are set to bleed you to near death.

     Another man's views....
Listen to his connections between the Treasury
Department and Goldman/Sachs + the lobbyists.
It's worth the time spent hearing what this man
 is speaking of.

I'm barely hanging in there with all this bullshit, dream.
I have to say, all this really stresses me when I choose to think about it,
which I'm not doing as much anymore because I need more happy thoughts in my life.

Thinking about politics, and what these people are doing to our bottom lines
takes me to a bad place and I can't afford the mental/emotional distraction anymore.

What's sad is that nearly all thinking/caring/loving/responsible people
see what's going down. We see that the system, and these politicians'
collective refusal to show any class, any fortitude, any new ideas in their
deliberations is hastening our downfall as a country.
And yet we're not able to stop the collapse from happening.

When did it become cool to not give a fuck, and just do the wrong thing?
Is that okay, nowadays?
Clearly, it is.

In history, all huge empires rize and fall.
Most older living Americans can recall when our
nation was on the rize and our standard of living was
better than most anywhere in the world for the average
citizen who wanted to work to improve their life.
America is slowly losing that position for many
reasons. Our empire and stature in the world is
faltering, and most of us don't understand, or refuse
to accept that fact. We are now a dis-organized bunch
of quasi-plutocrats who won't wake up untill it's
 too late to repair things.
       For some un-explained reason,people usually
reject history's lessons that could help save us
from self-inflicted grief. It makes no sence, but
 thats the way it is.

I keep coming around to this:
It seems pointless to discuss any of this when as Toad correctly points out,
humans are blind to the lessons of history. We do not heed the lessons.
We do not learn from them. And thus we are doomed to repeat the mistakes we make.

Why discuss any of this when we can't change things?
What's to be gained, when we can't come together as a nation of voters
and take back what's been stolen from us?

Our politicians serve only the rich and the banks. We know this.
The 90% of Americans who are not being served are having their wealth
and standard of living stripped by these same politicians. There seems to
be no stopping this. Our politicians resist moves toward positive change
that would redirect wealth and revenue away from the powerful banks
and our military industrial complex; there is no political will to do this.
Yet we the people are still standing on the sidelines like deer in headlights;
we still aren't demanding specific change from our elected theives.
We do not deserve our freedom when we pay no attention and
do not hold our elected theives accountable.

I've come to have the same feelings, Jeff.  I am so disgusted with the current Congress, I have trouble watching news reports without getting angry at the TV.  I have never seen the partisan wrangling and bitterness as high as it is now, and NONE of them serve us well.  They've long forgotten they are public servants and they work for us.

Public service used to be an honorable profession, and many went into  it with high ideals and convictions worthy of helping and doing the best for the constituents they serve.  That's no longer the cse with 99% of them from both sides of the aisle.

I believe more and more Americans are feeling this way as they struggle to make ends meet, all the while watching our representatives take their paid vacation.  They enjoy the best health care the taxpayers money can buy.  I've always said if they want true health care reform, all Americans should be on the same plan Congress enjoys.

I used to admire some members of Congress, especially those who used the art of compromise to do what is right for the country.  Now, I have little more than disgust for all of them.
