Still it was pretty awesome seeing yet another Eclipse.

Have You Ever Tried Making
"the camera obscura" ?

— The Genius of Photography Ep1 - Fixing the Shadows—

"Fixing the Shadows tells the story of the birth of photography itself and the profound question that it raised, and which has never been satisfactorily answered: what is photography for? Detailing the rival methods of the pioneers Henry Fox Talbot and Louis Daguerre for 'fixing the shadows', the programme examines how photography took its place alongside other new technologies like the railway and telegraph to transform our understanding of the modern world. It describes how pioneer photographers like the portraitist Nadar asserted the status of
photography as an art
only for this status to be transformed by the Kodak revolution, which put the camera into the hands of the masses who unlocked its potential for surreality, randomness and surprise. Finally it examines the case of Jacques-Henri Lartigue, the schoolboy photographer who demonstrated the true genius of photography in the hands of the amateur. Includes interviews with Chuck Close and David Byrne."

Photographed this tiger two weekends ago in the Philadelphia Zoo ... staying cool in the shade. She was beautiful. I'd hoped she'd walk over to us by the rail but we were in full sun and she wasn't interested.

These colors are STUNNING Jeff!!   Your garden must be lovely!

I mentioned to Soul Sister and Dream that I was going to start a gardening thread and copy some of our personal garden photos and put them there, without messing up their current locations. Of course I haven't gotten to it yet.

... and you know I love the big kitty!!

Thanks.

I took the photo directly below back in May 2010 while on a job in Marco Island Florida.
We were treated to a prolific sunset that evening. The beach was full of people snapping away at this... I was just one of them.
No photoshopping was done on this. I used a polarizing filter on my camera lens which made things pop a bit more.  The rest was mother nature...

Maggie and I were up in New York State last weekend visiting friends in High Falls
which is just at the southern tip of the Catskill Mountains.

Our friends took us hiking up to Lake Minnewaska which has great cliffs that
offer a wonderful view of the far off peaks. The weather was spectacular and
I got some great shots. Maggie is looking off at The Catskills in the distance,
not far from where the town of Woodstock is...

Jeff!!!!!!

As always.. Beautiful Pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent some time here last night just enjoying this thread again. There are so many great shots in here, and many of those pics are ones that You took.

Really awesome, and peaceful and inspiring to look at when it seems like everything else in this world is in total chaos!

Keep 'em coming!

I also have so many new shots of summer/fall scenes & sunsets etc.,
that I can't wait to post here from the last few months and will start that process on this thread as soon as I get a few other projects completed.

I can't wait to chunk out some time to dive into this.

Any way, again, thanks for posting these here... really enjoying what YOUR "eye" is seeing thru the lens.

~BigSmiles,
Geno

p.s. Here's a rough jpg edit of one of a series that Marty shot in the dark from the D'Street deck... after sunset... time exposed right after Hurricane Irene blew thru here... The TIFF "negative" raw source is actually dark... all black... but... I just now, hit it with over Exposure and dropped Gamma.... etc... this is what I got when I did that. So much cool stuff to experiment with!!! ~Geno

Photo: Marty Lindley - Photo Insanity Adjustments: Gene Leone - 2011
*LoL*

Here's what a small version of the
"source TIFF" looked like
before photo insanity adjustments:

From the darkness, there is light!
Too much fun!!!

And...
I still can't believe that I had a camera in my hand,
shooting from behind the screen door,
just as this happened!

— Photo: Gene Leone - D'Street Deck - Aug, 2011 —

Trust me, this one actually did take my breath away!
Way too close for comfort!
*LoL*

Go Jeff, Maggie, Family & Friends!!!

Great pics!

––••––

Ok...

Here's something a little different for getting that earth & moon shot...

How to film the Earth from space... UK style...

and...

How to launch Lego Man to the stars... Canadian style...

When that balloon pops... woah!
Just listen and imagine
what that moment would feel like
all the way up there!

"-A duo of 17-year-olds from Toronto attached a Lego man to a weather balloon,
along with several cameras and a GPS tracker,
and launched it into the Earth's upper atmosphere.

Canadian teenagers launch Lego man to the stars (full story +video)

and then of course...
... there's the Soulful Planet way...
