Mixey!
Excellent point! ...and an especially excellent point to remember in an earthquake! I guess it's pretty safe to consider that... whatever might be belching out of a sudden crack in the earth, or a sudden fireball explosion up in the sky... in a massive quantity, sudden release, is probably not going to be very friendly to humans. ––••–– Ok, also, I just saw this on YouTube: — Russian Fireball Largest Ever Detected by CTBTO's Infrasound Sensors 360 — YouTube Description from CTBTO: Published on Feb 19, 2013 "Infrasonic waves from the meteor that broke up over Russia's Ural mountains last week were the largest ever recorded by the CTBTO's International Monitoring System. Infrasound is low frequency sound with a range of less than 10 Hz. The blast was detected by 17 infrasound stations in the CTBTO's network, which tracks atomic blasts across the planet. Listen to the audio files of the infrasound recording after it has been filtered and the signal accelerated. Read more:http://www.ctbto.org/press-centre/pre... The recording was sped up 135 times, in reality it lasted 25 minutes! The sound files were produced by CTBTO's infrasound guru Pierrick Mialle. For those interested in getting really techie, Pierrick says the sound file he produced lasts 14 seconds (which corresponds to 31.5 minutes at real "speed"). When you listen you can hear the meteorite detection for about 8 seconds (or 18 minutes at real "speed"). Pierrick modified the speed but also changed the frequency content -- so that you can better hear the signal against any background noise. To get a more precise duration of the signal that was recorded by the Kazakh infrasound station than you hear in the animation, Pierrick used specialized software and voilà - we have 25 minutes. Pierrick is part of a team of dedicated scientists in the CTBTO's International Data Centre -- who spend their days monitoring the world for nuclear tests. Between 17 and 21 June scientist from all over the world will be meeting in Vienna to promote the wider scientific application of data that are used for test-ban verification. Read more:http://www.ctbto.org/specials/snt2013/ Animation: Krzysztof Kolasinski; scientific data: Pierrick Mialle...." |

I saw a very nice meteor
streak across the sky (east to west) ta few nights ago... right over the D'Street Deck... about 3:00am. A small one, but it it flamed brightly into a small fire ball moving quickly and lasting up to 1 to 2 seconds before burning out... totally silent, before, during and after... The flare flash was bright enough to see it for a few moments after when I blinked or closed my eyes... (like what happens after a camera flash bulb goes off in a dark room). I guess it's connected to this: — Meteor Shower Spawned by Halley's Comet Peaking Now — MAY 5, 2013 10:00 AM ET // BY TARIQ MALIK, SPACE.COM Meteor Shower Spawned by Halley's Comet Peaking Now (Click Here) and remember to... ~ Look Up!!! ~ |

![]() — Riding the Booster with enhanced sound — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aCOyOvOw5c#at=495 " From the upcoming Special Edition Ascent: Commemorating Space Shuttle DVD/BluRay by NASA/Glenn a movie from the point of view of the Solid Rocket Booster with sound mixing and enhancement done by the folks at Skywalker Sound. The sound is all from the camera microphones and not fake or replaced with foley artist sound. The Skywalker sound folks just helped bring it out and make it more audible." — Absolutely mindblowing video shot from the Space Shuttle during launch —"Drop whatever you're doing and watch this. NASA has released videos shot from onboard the Space Shuttle's Solid Rocket Boosters in the past, but you've never seen one prepared as masterfully as this. For one thing, the footage was shot in high definition, so the image is exceptionally clear." "...Try to let what you're witnessing sink in. See those numbers flying past in the upper right hand corner? That's the Shuttle's airspeed. See that gleam of light against the inky backdrop of space at 2:08 and 3:11? That's the Shuttle continuing on its flight path into low Earth orbit. Hear the eerie rattling, haunting moans, and weird dinosaur noises? That's what it sounds like to be a Solid Rocket Booster, falling to Earth from an altitude of 150,000 feet..." ~~~ AWESOME STUFF!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() —— Mars Rover Panorama Awesomeness!!! —— ![]() View 360 Panorama/Zoom Full Screen Awesomeness Here: Sol 2082: Selfie at Gale Crater "This panorama combines 83 exposures taken by the rover's Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) during the Sol 2082 of Curiosity's work on Mars (June 15, 2018) A Martian dust storm has reduced sunlight and visibility at the rover's location in Gale Crater. A storm of tiny dust particles has engulfed much of Mars over the last two weeks and prompted NASA's Opportunity rover to suspend science operations. But across the planet, NASA's Curiosity rover, which has been studying Martian soil at Gale Crater, is expected to remain largely unaffected by the dust. While Opportunity is powered by sunlight, which is blotted out by dust at its current location, Curiosity has a nuclear-powered battery that runs day and night. The Martian dust storm has grown in size and is now officially a "planet-encircling" (or "global") dust event."
