I have a couple that work for me. They are a
little differant from anything coming out of a bottle
 from the grocery store.
       1 cup Mayo
       one half cup red wine
       one tablespoon sugar
two fine chopped hard boiled eggs
It also works as a good slaw dressing. Simple yet
The next one is a slight off-shoot of the classic
 oil & vinegar:
Pour a slight amount of good olive oil, or
corn oil on your salad. Then add some good wine
or apple cider vinegar.Next step, pour some Clamato
juice on it and toss. Add some Marjoram flakes.
The Clamato brand juice has a great fresh tomato
taste and works great when your tomato are flat
tasting, or if you don't have any tomatos on hand.
I'm sure some of you will add to this thread with
some cool salad dressing ideas. My suggestions are
kinda simple but won't cost you much to make.
I have been burned buying store bought dressings
soo many times I have gave up trying to find a good
Down, and nearly out in Detroit......

Great idea on the Clamato juice Toad! That sounds really good...

I'm going to get some clam powder to try and do the same thing, by mixing it with tomato juice and maybe adding something else sweet instead of the corn syrup that's in Clamato nowadays. I used to get that stuff before, but then I noticed it doesn't taste the way I remembered. Maybe it's corn syrup.

I love making my own salad dressing. Whatever I make, I usually make a day ahead and let it rest in the refrigerator, before serving.

There was a simple one I used to make that was just olive oil, lemon, mustard powder, distilled vinegar, garlic, pepper, salt and water. That was it... and it always tasted great!
