Cool posts Geno ... Thought the Smokey Robinson vid was interesting with how they broke out the mix.

Al Jarreau ... say no more. The man can sing whatever he wants.

Take 6 is awesome!.. woah.

Your posts reminded me of one of my favorite songs - "Spain" by Chick Corea.

I was moved to share three different takes on this great number ...

First, a duet - great video AND performance - by Chick and Hiromi Uehara ...

Then a version by "THREE GUITARS" ... Paco DeLucia, Al DeMiola, and John McLaughlin ...

Then an interesting improv by the trio of Chick Corea, John Pattitucci, and Vinnie Colaiuta ... this isn't offered for embedding by the owner so click the link below ...

OMG this thread is intense!

Jeff... thanks for explaining what you meant about Willem Tanke's performance.

He's a very disciplined artist. It's taken him a very long time to perfect his handroll technique, via his "Art of Doing Nothing" discipline. It's his Zen approach to achieving a certain level.

Western ears are sometimes reluctant to appreciate new things. I'm sorry that I misunderstood you.

"The Art Of Doing Nothing ... Willem Tanke"

He's well known for his organ work, which is indeed spectacular, IMO

~ ~ ~

Toad. . . I love your way of posting videos... very cool!!

The Joni Mitchell video got to me... WOW I just love her!!

~ ~ ~

OK I have to keep watching. I haven't gotten to them all yet.

~ Toad, Mixey, George, Jeff!!! ~

Stunning performances!!!!!!!!!!!!

Toad, Ya got me with the Joni Mitchell video! and the jazz video's do sound like they were recorded yesterday! Cool!

Mixey... Mike Garson is incredible behind a grand, and he really takes that piano thru some dark places, very interesting! (Go Mike!) As is Willem Tanke and the rolling hand technique... hey, if it's special tuning on a guitar, a bass or a "prepared piano' detubed and played with blocks of wood (Theo Antineo - remember that from Quad?), it all works if it creates the desired performance and mood.
And the Bill Bruford video is great... and hats off to Bill Clements!!!

Jeff, OMG, Great Performances and interpretations of "Spain" from so many Great Masters of the craft...

I just love the facial interplay, communication and fun with Chick and Hiromi...

and the reserve in the performance with Paco DeLucia, Al DeMiola, and John McLaughlin...

and too funny in the Chick Corea, John Pattitucci, and Vinnie Colaiuta kick ass performance with Vinnie lighting the cig and playing with the ashes falling all over *LOL*! Love it!

As I said above with respect to this thread we all have going here on SoulfulPlanet,... and how good this "feels" that

"...This is better than TV"...
Well, it also occurred to me that
"...this thread is exactly what "MUSIC TELEVISION" should be all about...
GREAT PLAYERS ... GREAT PERFORMANCES!"

And ok, back to great performances...
AND speaking of trio's... here's a stunning performance of just drummers...
GREAT ones...

— Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd —

— Wow!—

Geno ...

I really like what you said - and I agree totally!

Music television SHOULD be like this. Diverse ... Interesting ... Intriguing ... And FUN.
(And no commercial interruptions!!!  lol)

We'll just have to provide the template for the next phase ... who knows ... if this thread keeps growing, maybe this WILL become the preferred alternative for the masses! Think about that ...

(Would that work for you, George?)

Ok, Toad!!!

Here's some rare footage... of a relatively new band on the scene
sounding much like a cross some where between "Santana", Rare Earth" and "War"... etc... featuring
Maurice White, Verdine White, Jessica Cleaves, Ronnie Laws, Larry Dunn, Roland Bautista, Ralph Johnson and Phillip Bailey...

for EVERYONE.

This thread is so special, that it may be better to have it continue as one big thick thread, than have it fractured into parts 1 2 3 and on.

We can reduce the amount of posts per page to make it easier to load, and then move the posts from the thread that you started, Toad with your permission, over here as a continuation of this one.

What does anyone think about this?

We can reduce the amount of posts per page to make everything easier to load, and then move the posts from the thread that you started, Toad with your permission, over to the first one.

I posed this question on the first thread as well, in case anyone misses it here.

What does anyone think about this?

Hey George ...

That's a great idea, if I understand you correctly ... you're suggesting that you'd just break this thread out into separate pages that can be selected separately, and (payoff) could load separately? If that's the deal I think that makes sense, rather than splitting this up and driving viewers to separate places for the same thread.

Is that the deal? What do you think Toad?
