The Phillies are doin' it tonight 7 to 2 in the 7th.
One thing I just noticed.... The Yankies pay these
players millions of dollars, but check out their batting
helmets... They look like they been dragged behind
a truck, and then ran over and pulled out of a dumpster.
They can't afford decent helmets? WTF?
Lets chip in and send them a can of Rustoleum
 or Krylon..no runz-no drips-no errors. Ya think?

Down, and nearly out in Detroit......

Well, this is an exciting World Series, regardless of the outcome.

A few sportscasters have commented on the fact that the last several World Series have gone down in fairly predictable fashion.... many have ended within 5 games with little drama.

Not this time!

I'm looking for The Phils to claw their way to victory in game six and set the stage for a win in the seventh. I think they can do it.

Time to set their sights on beating a tired Andy Petitte...

Exciting is right!!!

— Utley Muscles Into Rare Company —

www.NYTimes.com
By BEN SHPIGEL
Published: November 3, 2009

"PHILADELPHIA — Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel used to say that Kirby Puckett was his favorite player. And then he met Chase Utley.

“The only thing Kirby might have on Chase is he’s more flamboyant because he smiles a lot,” Manuel said. “Chase is a little bit different.”

Utley was not smiling Monday night even after extending the Phillies’ season by powering two home runs in their heart-pounding 8-6 victory over the Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series.

That is because he was in the interview room, his least favorite place within Citizens Bank Park, forced to answer questions about the company he joined with his commanding performance. With five home runs in all, Utley tied the Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson, who dominated in 1977, for most in a single World Series. As he spoke about that honor, Utley showed no emotion — no nod, no laugh and, no, no smile, either.

“It’s not my favorite part,” Utley said. “My favorite part is playing the game.”... ... "

Congratulations to the Yankees.  New York must be going nuts right now!!

I wonder what would have happened if the ball hadn't hit the camera in game what ever it was.

I have a feeling we're going to be back on this thread next year saying go Phillies.

I feel badly for The Phillies.

Here's my observation, having followed them very closely all season and particularly closely in the post-season games.

The entire team (with maybe the exception of Cliff Lee, who just seems to be automatic) suffered a classic case of emotional letdown following their win over The Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. That's really what happened.

The Phillies were hitting on all cylinders in the NLCS with the Dodgers. Their pitching was strong; the entire lineup was getting clutch hits. Ryan Howard was in the zone. The entire team was loose, confident, and having fun. No surprise they beat L.A. The Phillies all assumed the Yankees would be their next victim, as did a lot of people.

But after they beat the Dodgers - all the air went out of the team. They let down. And they never managed to rekindle the fire. This has happened to many teams heading into the World Series.

Except for Cliff Lee, our pitchers lost their edge. Ryan Howard forgot how to hit. Crucial defensive mistakes were made in the field. Everybody played very tentatively, even at home. It was like a different team than the one that played the Dodgers.

In the end.... it was all mental. They disconnected. And to a man they all probably felt that.

The good news is, the entire core of this team will be back next year and will once again be in the thick of it. I'm a Phillies fan and I'll be back out there next year cheering them on again.

A fine year boys..... even if you didn't win the series.   ClapClapClap
