This coming Saturday is the annual Woodward Ave. Dream Cruise.
One million gearheads with more custom cars than you can imagine.
It's the biggest car show in the nation. I will be taking "The Silver
Bullit" down there, in the middle of about 70 other Cobras.
I will post pictures here next week for all of you to see.Wink

Finally ... you can have the car of your dreams for a fraction of the actual price!... there's only one catch - it'll be only a fraction of it's actual size.

You've probably seen that the "Smart Car" - a diminutive ultra sub-compact import very popular in Europe has finally been made available here in The States, and is being sold in select areas. Here's a photo of the Smart Car ...

Now you can get customized body kits for your smart car that turn it into a shrunken version of many popular high performance autos ...

how about ... The Smorvette!...

... The Smorsche!...

...The Smaudi A3 AWD!...

...The Smamborghini!...

...And last, but not least,
The Smerrari!

(Be patient; this page takes a while to load. Heavy graphics.)

Toad can explain this one, because

This is THE COBRA that TOAD built:

Hi,
I thought you'all might want to see a little video showing my Ex-Cobra
in action. I didn't approve of this test ride, but the broker that sold my care took
it upon himself to do it behind my back. Looking back, It's the only film of the
car being driven that I have. After over seven years of labor building it I still
have fun showing it off..even though it now has a new owner. It got about
5 miles to the gallon, so it wasn't exactly a "green" car, but it gave me a thrill
everytime I took it out. Hope you enjoy this little blurb.

Here is my Car broker's sales pitch for the
Cobra. The video was shot on his showroom floor
 last summer.
Building a car one bolt at a time gives you a
serious insight as to what goes on to assemble
a vehicle from the ground up. It ain't easy....
This was All-American. No foreign parts..
and no robots with this ride.
     I watched a Barrett/Jackson auction lately where
they sold a 92 Chevy pickup truck that was designed
by Chip Foose, and custom built by Boyd Cottington
for Eddie van Halen, which included a custom built
guitar signed by Eddie. Foose and Cottington are
the two biggest names in the custom car business,
and have been for many years.
My Cobra sold for more money than Eddie's pickup
and that made me proud of the workmanship that
 I put into my car.

Toad,

That car is awesome and shows your heart for the pieces you build.  Been around and lurking, but have not said hey lately, sorry no excuse.  I have been busy with family and work.  My son and I have been working on VW's and talking bass playing.  We had snow down here last week, so we rolled it out for a shot in the snow.  Here she is:

            Robert,
Who picked out the color combination?
  I like VW's !  I bought a 76 VW Dasher new.
It handled like a go-cart on steroids.

Volkswagen did, that is a factory car.  1996 VW Golf Harlequin, only 264 made for North America.

Wow ! ... Living in Detroit, you would think I
would have seen at least one of this model VW
but I haven't yet. With only 264 ever made that is a very rare car. It may be one to invest some time and
labor in. The older it gets, the more it will gain in
value. Rarity can pay off big with cars in time.
I like the wheels. They have a great look for that
 vehicle.
My 76 Dasher had two weird flaws. it had a leak
in the front windshield that would drip water into
the glove compartment and nowhere else. The glovebox
was plastic, and would hold about a gallon of water.
When you happened to open it, the stashed gallon
of water would shoot out like a tidal wave, flooding
the passenger side of the front seating...or in your
lap if you were setting there.
The other strange thing it did was to toss all
the engine oil out of the the valve cover when the
temps outside dropped below about 7 degrees F.
The oil would spray all over the exhaust header,
and smoke like the car was on fire. I never could
figure out why this happened..but it did if it got
cold enough. I tried very hard to push that car
to understeer or oversteer while cornering. It
wouldn't break loose ! I came to the conclusion
that if you pushed it hard enough, the entire car
might flip upside down. That car would corner better
than any car I have ever seen or drove. A great car
to have if you were chased by the police. They
wouldn't have a chance of catching you. Trust me
 on that.

Thanks Toad,

The wheels are from a Mini Cooper, I had to open up the centerbore by 1mm to fit my hubs.  The car is a love/hate thing in the Vdub community.  There are very few people who think they are just ok.  But when someone really wants one, they go a little nuts to get one.  Mine was located in the backwoods of Georgia.  I found it online listed incorrectly.  I talked to the owner for 7 months before I finally was able to get the car.  It was a lot of work.  The car had been parked under a tree for 3 years and did not run when I picked it up.  Slowly she is changing.  I have been hooked on VW's for a several years now, easy to work on and a lot of people will sale a perfectly good car because they do not want the dealer to work on it, so I get some good deals to support my habit.
