Yes, dream ... those XKE Jags are still one of the coolest cars out there.

Well ... from 1976 to the present ... in '76 I had the Chevelle I showed above. Today, I drive a 1997 Honda Civic. I bought it used, with 100,000 miles on it. It was in great shape and still is today.

I must drive nearly 100 miles a day for my work commute. A dependable, fuel efficient car like this was essential, and has helped my bottom line tremendously. I paid $5000. for it two years ago and have put over 20,000 miles on it since. It starts right up every time, runs like a champ, and looks good in the process. Here's my "red rollerskate" ...

Nice wheels, Jeff.  That's what I want most from a car - that it gets the job done and it's reliable.  I bought a Subaru Legacy sedan four years ago with 75,000 miles on it - nothing for a Subie.  My driving is very limited now so I only need a car to get me around town.  I've done regular service on it, and with all wheel drive it's made me feel safe during the winter months.  I don't even have snow tires on it.  I've had no problems with the car and really like it.  It's perfect for my needs.  Mine is red, too, but more of a raspberry color than yours.

TOAD!!!  What a great video.  It's a shame you have to sell a car you've put so much love and attention in.  I realize it's necessary, but you and that car look like you go together.  I hope you get max $$$ for it.Thumbs%20Up

I only know about them from the hot rod tunes from the 1960's, which right there tells you how much I know about cars, and I'm a guy lol.

   MM,
The Jag in the pic is one of the best ever produced, as far as performance
and appearance. They came with an in-line 6 cylinder engine, 4.2 liter,
double overhead cams, and side draft carbs. All independant suspension,
and manual trans. Very narrow, a great cornering, and the most visual
appealing car of all times. Expensive to maintain or restore. One of the great classics.
Glad you like my video. I didn't want my voice or interview on the film,
but will take what I got with a smile. Sure hope I can sell it, because I
really need to turn that page and move on.

   Dream,
I think the green car is a 1966 too. They had the clear covers over the
headlights, and the petite thin taillights. Those are REAL wire wheels,
with splined/pin drive axles. I think this is the most beautiful factory
built automobile that was ever made. A friend of mine had one, and I
rode in it and worked on it. It was a pale yellow/with a black top.
FINE,FINE,FINE !!!!!  If I hit the lotto, I will own one of these !

YES!!!  An XKE is a Jag.   They're gorgeous inside and out, MM.

I agree, Toad, I think it's the most beautiful car ever manufactured.  That green one is my ideal.  If I had married George and was living in the English countryside, that would be my buggy.CoolLOL    That one is a '66 I believe.

XKE's must move fast because all those hot rod songs mentioned them.

Now what about Stingrays??

Another car mentioned in those hot rod songs way back when.

A 4.2 XKE would turn a low forteen second Quarter mile time,
which was very fast for a six cylinder car....very fast.
May the Lord help you if the car needs servicing. Nobody was qualified
to work on them , and do a good job...A problem that exists to this day.

John McCain: Chevy Corvette (Now: Cadillac CTS)
Hillary Clinton: Oldsmobile Cutlass (Now: Ford Hybrid)
John Edwards: Plymouth Duster (Now: Ford Escape)
Barack Obama: Ford Granada (Now: Chrysler 300C)
Bill Richardson: Ford Mustang (Now: Jeep Wrangler)
Rudy Giuliani: Used Dodge (Now: Doesn't drive...)
Mike Huckabee: Mercury Montego (Now: Chevy Tahoe)
Mitt Romney: Rambler Classic (Now: Ford Mustang)

I found this list what they had as a first car and what they drive now. Looks like McCain spoils himself. .I like lists lol.

I would urge everyone reading Posts on our forum to try and attend
a major NHRA Drag race event at some time in the near future.
If you have never been to one of these racing functions, you will be glad you made the effort. Although the eliminations happen on Sundays,
The show they put on Saturday nights is something to behold.
Imagine a car with 8000 horsepower going from a dead stop,
1000 feet in less than four seconds, at over 300 miles per hour.
These are the fastest accelerating cars in the world, and a real
rush to see and hear. You must see this some time...you will never
forget it !!!! Check it out on ESPN II on Sunday Nights, but remember
that being there is way more fun !!!!

Toad,

I've seen those cars back in the day.  My boyfriend's (in college) brother use to drag those things at Epping, New Hampshire.  He had a big hearse he used to transport the car to races.  We went on occasion to support him.

I have to say it was not one of my favorite things to do.  I didn't like the noise, the crowds or the smells.  I was too much of a girly girl by then - sharp contrast to my tomboy days as a kid.LOL  I'm glad I had the experience though.

BTW, Toad ... I used to like going to see drag racing.

Been to the local strips in my area a number of times ... Maple Grove (PA), Cecil County (MD), Raceway Park (NJ).

Back in my bachelor days a group of motorhead friends and I used to like to take in The Dutch Classics at Maple Grove ... a weekend of drag racing in all classes. We'd get pit passes which is the only way to go IMO ... gets you inside the pit area and full walk-up access to all the racers. It was fascinating to watch a team swarm on a big block - disassembling the whole thing and rebuilding it in mere minutes.

It's astonishing how loud a top fuel dragster is. Shocked

I also love to go to car shows. Could do that anytime, anywhere.
Jeff
