I support you on that Jeff and I understand, especially how an injury that causes decreased mobility at a time of increased responsibility, can get you very depressed. I'm glad you're coming out of that.

I'm thankful to you and Geno for breathing life into Geek Bucket. I'm going to need a lot of help from over there. I have a studio that's been inactive for too long; and finally getting it going will be a blast for me. I also feel like I have to get it going to honor my son and our friend Toad for sure. He didn't put his life into those guitars for me for nothing. I have ideas.

I have so much to share in other areas too, not just here in Town Hall, although I still depend on Town Hall to keep me motivated to stay interested in Politics. I never had much of that interest before interacting with you and Dream and Geno and MM, and of course Toad! All of you have done me a very good turn, especially because of our differences. We don't just agree on everything; and I respect that a lot!

Thank you for motivating me to open up more Jeff!

Thanks Mixey. Although my last three years have not been your last three
years, they have been extremely challenging. My life shrunk quite a lot
due to chronic shoulder injuries and my workload having increased exponentially.
I've had to battle depression and inertia and being kept down by circumstances.
 
What I recognized is that a lot of my frustration and anger has found a too-
convenient target in the dysfunction of Washington... and my posts have
become a little too infused with my own unhappiness. I am not a
despondant person by nature but you wouldn't know it to read my posts.
There's no point in getting emotionally invested in politics, seeing as how it's
a lost cause; but I've let these posts become an outlet for my frustration
and that's not productive for me, or for the ongoing dialogue in these threads.
 
There's been a big musical chasm in my life since 2007. I've really been
wanting to get back after my music because it is an essential component
to my life. But I've had to wait for my injuries to get better and for my life to
settle down a little. I've finally gotten to that place and I'm excited to be
getting the ball rolling. I feel excited about something - and I haven't felt that
way for a few years. 
 
I started posting about my musical activity in Geek Bucket and I'll keep

Thank you Jeff.

Working on music IS a happy thought; and I can relate to needing to feel hope too, not so much in a political or general way... but for my personal life. It's been a very difficult 3 years for me; so I've been giving myself guidelines to force-flip a page. Part of my process has been finally sitting down at the piano a few days ago. For those few minutes, I felt like all things were possible; so I know that optimism still exists within me.

Music is a magical switch; but it's easy to forget how beautiful and available it is, and what it can do for us sometimes, when we feel the beauty of it is too much to confront. Sometimes I feel like I want to get away from the sadness, but the loss of it as well, might be too great... and therefore, it becomes too sad to enjoy myself. Then, I find that's not true at all, if I just give myself a few minutes... and play... or listen.

We must be on the right track to something... and how lovely that Obama and Romney are trying to incorporate music into their mix too. Romney's pipes need a plumber or something.   

Keep making some time for your music Jeff... even if it's only a few minutes... It can make all of the difference in the world! Geno and I were just talking about this on the phone.

Everything I'm inclined to say about politics is downbeat and discouraging.
I don't like reading my own stuff anymore.
 
People need to feel hope... to hear some encouraging thoughts. 
I don't have it in me anymore. Not about politics, or the future
of the American Middle Class. I haven't the heart to
talk about it anymore.
 
I am working on music now. That will be my happy thought.

Too funny... I come here to this SoulfulPlanet Thread to find out what is really going on in the Political scene, because the varying honest opinions and interpretations expressed here, are from those people I feel I understand and trust... not some talking head telling me what to believe.

Along with "something nice to say"... don't be afraid to say something true, in anger but in a funny way... because more and more... it really is all a big, freakin' joke...

The proposed cuts to Medicare are contained in the Obama care bill, Mixey.  He's the one who proposed them, and unless Congress revises the bill they are do to take effect in 2013.  Perhaps my wording was confusing.

Re Obama and a second term.  He will be a "lame duck" president after the first year.  Congress hasn't cooperated with him so far, and there's no reason to believe he can turn that around, unless Democrats take control again.  He had a Democrat House & Senate during his first two years and they accomplished nothing.  He will try to concentrate on his legacy, but most of what can be accomplished happens in the first term, and we haven't seen much.
 
I understand the apathy Jeff and others are feeling.  We have a terrible roster on the Republican side and Obama has been less than successful on the domestic front.  He's done some good things in foreign policy, and I'm sure Hillary Clinton & Leon Panetta have had a lot to do with his scores there.
 
Having said that, there's a lot of anger in the country today, and Obama has been on the front lines perpetuating it with class warfare.  He's been a very divisive president by pitting rich against the poor, and the middle class has all but disappeared.  The Congress has helped him by being more partisan than ever.  None of them, including the president, have anything to be proud of given the debt ceiling fiasco and and the lowering of the nation's credit rating.  Those standoffs hurt both parties, and the American people most of all.
 
People are apathetic and angry because they see the country declining at a rapid rate and they don't believe the eventual Republican nominee or Obama will change anything.
